Protecting Israeli democracy for 33 years
For over 33 years, the Movement for Quality Government in Israel (MQG) has been on the forefront of preserving Israel’s democracy. An independent, non-partisan, grassroots movement, MQG has evolved into one of Israel’s largest and most effective public interest organizations, exposing public corruption and regulative flaws and actively promoting the rule of law and better government, with 300,000 followers on social media and over 65,000 registered members. MQG works for and by the people and is accountable solely to its primary stakeholder – the public.

The struggle continues…
In recent months, since the inception of the active resistance to the government’s undemocratic initiatives, we oppose and act with all the legal, parliamentary, protesting and media tools available to us to save Israel’s democracy in view of the ‘overthrow’ plan.
1/ LEGAL ACTION
Our legal work is twofold; MQG’s Policy and Legislation Department works towards providing reliable information to members of the Knesset from the opposition; to reject the anti-democratic legislation; removing extreme sections from the final legislation; extending the time for legislation; providing information and opinions to protestors’ groups and the media, issuance of conditional orders by the Supreme Court following petitions and more.
We have launched a process of confirming Israel’s constitution by durable laws, which apply to all future governments, regardless of their political affiliation or orientation in three overlapping initiatives: legal, educational, and raising public awareness. All this in order to stabilize, safeguard, and sustain the future of Israel’s liberal democracy and Jewish values, along with its institutions.
2/ PROTEST AND EDUCATION
We lead the call for the public to oppose governmental actions, by activism and by communications. For months, we have been demonstrating in the streets, week by week, on bridges and in squares together with the other protest organizations, calling out against the enactment of these laws. Leading the 1st mass protest and demonstrations of over 80,000 in Tel Aviv (the “the umbrellas demonstration”), and thousands in Jerusalem in front of the Knesset against the government’s anti-democratic “Legal Reform”.
We have performed educational activities with thousands of students and young adults across Israel, from all walks of life. They are Israel’s future, and must understand the implications to their future, and the future of Israel.
We held a series of conferences on the issue of anti- democratic legislation dealing with the consequences of the reforms on economy, military, women rights and the environment. Our lawyers continue to appear in the media and speak on a wide variety of platforms – television, radio, podcasts and more. In social media, we continue to operate vigorously and upload informational videos and posts to the public informing about our work during this period.
A Holistic, Action-Based Approach
MQG is the only organization in Israel using all tactics available to defend Israel’s democratic ethos and energize the public to act. Our approach combines direct litigation, legislative activism, youth education and grassroots engagement.
Watchdog Legal Action
MQG is on alert to expose and prevent public misdeeds (both national and local) that violate Israel’s legal and constitutional safeguards.
Whistleblower Hotline
Citizens use the hotline to report hundreds of anti-democratic violations per year, allowing us to impact urgent issues as they arise.
Policy and Legislation
We are constantly on duty in the Knesset, composing and promoting bills and policies that will preserve Israel’s democracy.
Safeguard Public Funds
MQG safeguards and promotes the proper use of public funds and resources. The MQG places special emphasis on fighting the corrosive effects of money in politics, and works to expose market and industry issues caused by governmental mismanagement, such as high market concentration.
Campaigns for and by the People
MQG’s reputation for independence and efficacy enables us to give a voice to the people in their fight against cronyism and corruption. The MQG organizes large- scale public campaigns and promotes legislative changes for and on behalf of the public.
Education and Activism
MQG educates, inspires and builds the capacity of young people throughout Israel to join the fight to sustain Israel’s democracy. We work in high schools, youth group movements and pre-army gap-year programs, offering an in-depth understanding of Israel’s democratic challenges and practical tools for civic activism.
